Abstract:

In all medical centers electrocardiography is one of the first steps in the evaluation of patients suspected of heart disease. It is therefore clear that distinguishing normal from pathologic patterns in electrocardiography is of utmost importance. The aim of this descriptive and analytical study was to determine the normal electrocardiographic indices in all leads and to investigate the influence of age and sex on these indices. For this purpose 500 healthy subjects were selected with the simple sampling method. After obtaining an electrocardiography and calculating the indices, the results were analyzed yielding the following results: Since in most cases P wave was negative in DIII and V1 leads and T wave in V1 and avF we can consider these negative waves as normal. At least in certain leads the great majority of electrocardiographic indices had significant relationships with age and sex. Most notably QRS interval which increasesd with age in all leads and QT interval that was longer in women than in men in all leads.

BACKGROUND: Staphylococcus aureus is a highly versatile pathogen of a large number of domestic ani- mals, including avian species. There is limited information about S. aureus isolated from companion and wild birds in Iran. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to determine drug resistance and random-amplified polymorphic DNA-PCR (RAPD-P...

Effects of atropine on autonomic indices based on electrocardiographic R-R intervals in healthy volunteers.

The dose dependent responses to atropine of 11 indices of autonomic function were investigated in 10 healthy volunteers. Five subjects were given cumulative doses of atropine (0.1-2.0 mg/70 g, intravenously). The other five received equivalent volumes of water for injection. The ratio of the longest to the shortest R-R intervals in the electrocardiogram during forced expirations and deep inspir...

24-hour ambulatory electrocardiographic monitoring is unhelpful in the investigation of older persons with recurrent falls.

BACKGROUND Although frequently used in the assessment of patients with falls, it is unclear whether 24-hour ambulatory electrocardiography contributes to their assessment in older persons. OBJECTIVE To identify electrocardiographic abnormalities in patients with recurrent falls and case controls, and determine whether 24-hour ambulatory electrocardiography identifies causal arrhythmias for fa...

Investigation of normal flatus production in healthy volunteers.

Flatulence can cause discomfort and distress but there are few published data of normal patterns and volumes. Twenty four hour collections were made using a rectal catheter in 10 normal volunteers taking their normal diet plus 200 g baked beans. Total daily volume ranged from 476 to 1491 ml (median 705 ml). Women and men (both n = 5) expelled equivalent amounts. The median daily flatus hydrogen...
